50th Anniversary of 1965 Voting Rights Act

Voting PhotoAs we prepare for the 2015 celebration of Dr. King’s legacy, this year also marks 50th anniversary of the Selma voting rights campaign and momentous march.

The 1965 Voting Rights Act outlawed the discriminatory voting practices adopted in many southern states after the Civil War, including literacy tests as a prerequisite to voting.  Visit the following websites to see if you could pass the literacy tests: Alabama Literacy Test and student-friendly MTV Literacy Test Challenge.

Make sure to come and join us at the 2015 MLK Celebration.  The event is free and open to the public.  To download a flyer, click on MLK Program Flyer 2015; and for a press release of the event and other flyers, click on media tab.
