Happy Birthday Dr. King!

Today, January 15, 2017, is Dr. Martin Luther King’s actual birthday.  To honor what would have been his 88th birthday, join the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Pasadena (IMA) today at 3:30 p.m. as it presents its annual “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Celebration Service,” featuring pastors from the Pasadena and Altadena communities. The event is hosted by Rev. Tyrone L. Skinner from Metropolitan Baptist Church. The IMA, a fellowship of more than thirty spiritual leaders of the community, comprised of local pastors and ministers, has been sponsoring these celebrations since the first year after Dr. King’s death in 1968.  The event will be held at Metropolitan Baptist Church at 2283 N. Monday, January 16, 2017 at 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., the Martin Luther King Community Coalition, Pasadena Unified School District, Pasadena Tournament of Roses, and Aspires West of Pasadena in conjunction with the city of Pasadena, National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., Gamma Lambda chapter presents the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday breakfast and celebration.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration and Student Awards will be held at Charles W. Eliot Middle School (new location!) at 2184 N. Lake Ave. | Altadena, CA  91001.  

  • 8:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m.:  Continental Breakfast
  • 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.:  Teach-in
  • 9:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.:  King Holiday Celebration and Program

Families, friends, community members, local and state political leaders will be in attendance as student finalists are presented awards for their participation in the MLK Community Coalition Essay and Visual & Performing Arts Contest.
